ABOUT IGCHE, GERMANY
Study Bachelor of Engineering with IGCHE, GERMANY
IGCHE is run by a consortium of German universities seeking to institutionalise the exchange of Indian and German students by incorporating a considerable part of bachelor studies in the other country. IGCHE is part of the DHIK, the German University Consortium for International Cooperations.
IGCHE has established a number of bilingual (English/German) bachelor programmes with reputable Indian institutions like PSG for higher education. Students joining PSGIAS - IGCHE programmes will be offered substantial additional language training as part of their regular curriculum. Upon successful completion, students will continue their studies and live in the GERMANY for the rest of their academic education.
The outstanding opportunities of this approach include a strong focus on German language qualification and substantial practical orientation.
- Through intensive German language training as part of the curriculum, candidates are enabled to complete their 4th year in Germany.
- Before coming to Germany, students must pass the standard German university level test (TestDaF). As part of the German study programme, the students will be attending German classes and do their internship in a German company, which is preferably combined with a bachelor thesis of a practical orientation.

About the program
Presently the IGCHE consists of eight state-run German Universities and the number is expected to increase in future. Every student of the program is assured of admission to one of the German Universities that are the members of the IGCHE. All IGCHE Universities are accredited to assure high quality education and have a strong international focus. Due to the small number of students per University intensive support and mentoring is assured.
Learning German language
It is mandatory to pass the TestDaF level 4 German language examinations to continue the 4th year of study in Germany. Right from the beginning of their studies at PSG, all IGCHE students have to attend mandatory German language classes. The German language courses are conducted as per international standards, mostly by native speakers. The regular German teaching at PSG is supplemented by IIK (Institut für Internationale Kommunikati on) in Düsseldorf. IIK recommends all students to take up the summer school at Germany at the end of the first year for a period of 4 weeks, which will enable the students to know about German culture and language learning method.
At the end of the third year, those students who are not sure of passing the TestDaF examination may take up the long term language program at IIK starting from the month of May. The placement department of IIK will assess the German language competency level of the students and decide the period for which the language course is to be attended for taking up TestDaF examination.
German guest lecturers visit the PSG IAS Campus in Coimbatore and give the students insight into the German way of teaching, answer questions and teach technical lessons in German language to the higher batches.
Summer School trips to Germany during the first three years of study help to get an idea about living abroad and boost motivation.
In the final year, the Indian students take the same classes as their German peers and get a regular German bachelor's degree. Many of them opt to continue their master studies in Germany or take a job as an engineer in Germany right after graduating.
